wedding venues in carmel la playa hotel

If you’re planning a wedding in Carmel, you have impeccable taste! Carmel is one of those rare towns that just oozes elegance. The whole place feels like a secret tucked away on the California coast, where everything is small-business-owned, elevated, and romantic in that no-chain-restaurants-allowed kind of way. Whether you’re envisioning an elopement by the sea, an intimate estate garden party, or something with serious coastal charm, the wedding venues in Carmel are next level. As a wedding photographer who’s spent a lot of time capturing love stories around here, I wanted to pull together a list of my favorite spots, from the iconic to the hidden gems. If you’re just starting your venue search or deep in the Pinterest rabbit hole, you’re in the right place. Let’s dive in.

1. La Playa Hotel

It's classy and intimate at the same time. It's quiet and luxury. Understated and beautiful.

I love that you can host your entire wedding day here from start to finish and they can accommodate every part of the day.

Originally built in 1905 (as a love letter from an artist to his wife, no less), this spot blends old-world romance with fresh luxury. You’ve got options here: a lush garden ceremony, ocean-view terrace, cozy fireside room… the vibes are all perfect. It’s exactly what you need for everything from intimate elopements to full-blown celebrations. Also, the food is next-level. Trust me, this one’s a favorite for a reason.

2. Carmel Valley Ranch

If you’re dreaming of vineyard views, lavender fields, and a sunset ceremony tucked into the Santa Lucia Mountains, Carmel Valley Ranch is the one. This is one of the most versatile wedding venues in Carmel, with 11 unique spaces (from garden lawns to cozy courtyards to their gorgeous organic garden), and it’s basically a photographer’s dream. I’ve had the chance to shoot a rehearsal dinner here and am so excited to work with some amazing couples in the future for their full wedding days!

3. Stonepine Estate

Stonepine Estate is hands-down one of the most luxurious and classy wedding venues in Carmel. And honestly, it’s at the top of my dream list to photograph. This place feels like a Tuscan escape tucked into the hills of Carmel Valley, with two distinct venue experiences: the ultra-elegant Chateau Noel and the more rustic-but-refined Double H Ranch. Think sprawling lawns, formal gardens, private chapels, winding trails, and that classic old-world charm. It’s newer on the wedding scene but already climbing fast as one of the best in the area and I can totally see why.

4. Folktale Winery

Nestled in the heart of Carmel Valley, Folktake Winery brings together everything you’d want: rolling vineyard views, romantic indoor and outdoor spaces, and that relaxed elegance this area is known for. If you want your celebration to feel warm, elevated, and unforgettable, Folktale is definitely one to check out.

5. Hyatt Carmel Highlands

If you’re after sweeping coastal views and that Big Sur magic without venturing too far off the beaten path, Hyatt Carmel Highlands might be your perfect match. It’s big and epic and beautiful, with a seaside gazebo and redwood deck that quite literally overlooks the Pacific. Bonus: it’s super close to Big Sur, so it’s easy to sneak away for first looks or golden hour portraits out on the coast.

6. The Barns at Cooper Molera

Okay, this one is technically in Monterey, but it’s too good not to include. The Barns at Cooper Molera is easily one of my favorite venues to shoot at in the area. I love this place! It has the coolest courtyard, the bridal suite upstairs is full of perfect light for vibey getting ready shots, and the whole space just flows so well for guests. This is another wedding venue that has everything in one place, which makes for a seamless experience for everyone.

I love walking around downtown during couple portraits to capture some amazing shots in the area. Walking down Alvarado Street is magical and even up to City Hall with the huge lawn is really pretty for solos and bridal party pictures. I always get excited when I find out I get to shoot here.

One of the weddings I shot at The Barns at Cooper Molera was featured on Junebug Weddings. Check it out here!

So there you have it, some of the most stunning wedding venues in Carmel, each with its own charm and vibe.

Whether you’re planning something intimate or full-blown elegant, there’s truly a space here that will make your vision come to life. As a NorCal wedding photographer, I can tell you firsthand: Carmel delivers.
